Hi, hello, hey!

Email me here or DM on Insta — or just call me on the phone if you’re really feelin’ it.

I’m a music person and a big nerd living in Nashville, spending my days turning feelings into air pressure and electricity and records!

I’ve spent about equal time playing and recording in living rooms, barns, attics, and alleys as I have working in amazing studios in Nashville and around the country.

Whether it’s a pristine pedal steel or that mysterious clanking sample playing through your modular synth rig, I handle all sounds and songs with utmost care and love, because it’s my belief there’s profound beauty and truth to be found in almost everything — from structured song craft and traditional recording practices to the grimiest experimental stream-of-consciousness computer bizarro world <3

In addition to my prod/eng/mix work, I float in and out of bands on a few instruments and have toured and played live with a bunch of the artists I work with. I was also a house engineer at the original Addiction Sound Studios in Nashville for several years, where I was fortunate to work under and learn from brilliant folks like Greg Wells, Reid Shippen, Ryan Hewitt, and Shani Gandhi, and work as a mix assistant to David Kalmusky, helping to develop an elaborate hybrid mixing workflow and keep all the gear running.

I’m currently part of the team at Gnome Studios, where we installed my friend & Addiction Sound co-worker Ethan Barrette’s painstakingly restored 1973 API console, and we’re working hard to foster an amazing facility for all different types of recording.

I love to work collaboratively and share space with people and their ideas, and am truly grateful to have shared duties on projects with some amazing music & audio brains, including Jamie Mefford (Gregory Alan Isakov, Nathaniel Rateliff), Bennett Littlejohn (Hovvdy, Sinai Vessel), Adrian Olsen (Buck Meek, Twain), and Ken Coomer (of Wilco, Uncle Tupelo). My dear friends Logan Chung and Ethan Fortenberry have have also taught me tremendous things about musicmaking in our co-production journeys together.

I also build/fix/modify recording and music gear for friends and for fun, and I ride my bike when there’s time :)

I’ll do remote singing saw overdubs for free!

Please give me a shout if you want to talk about anything at all.

With Love,

Berto
